The trip with the driver was pleasant as he was always concerned about me and asks at twice if I would like to take a rest to eat something, coffee or visit the rest room.

We arrived at the ferry station to Koh Chang at 11.15 hrs. I strongly believe if I would have departed from Suvarnabhumi Airport we could have arrived at least 30 minutes earlier.

As you may know there is a airport at Trat Province which is served by Bangkok Airways. Trat Province is the home province of ‘Koh Chang’ or Chang Island. But I did choose the car transfer for comfort and timing.

For air-transfer, I would need to check in at least one hour before departure, the departure is average 20 minutes delayed on airports, the flight in the small plane takes 45 minutes, I would need to wait about 20 minutes to get my luggage and then I would have a 30-40 minutes trip to the ferry station.

Considering all this, I would recommend everyone to choose transportation by car as it allows you to see some scenery of Thailand or you can simply take a nap in the car.

Most of the time the trip buy car is faster and most importantly, it’s cheaper as well. I also post a few pictures here, two from while one the car ferry and nice shot when arriving at Tranquility Bay Resort with. The views from my very spacious 120 sqm room have been simply breathtaking!

This are our favorites:

• Sun-bathing: – Yes, most people just like to relax on the powdery sand-beaches and have a swim in the crystal clear waters. After all, – especially Caucasians – like to arrive back home with a nice tan

• Elephant Trekking: – You haven’t been to Thailand if you and your loved one did not have a ride on Thailand’s gentle giants. To see the unspoiled nature and jungles of Koh Chang from the back of an elephant is a very memorable experience indeed.

• Snorkeling and Diving: – The best season for diving is October to April and the best sites are on the west site of the island. There are several ship wrecks to be explored some dating back to the second world war.

• Kayaking: – The sea around Tranquility Bay is perfect for kayaking.

• ‘Chao-Po Koh Chang’ Shrine: – A highly revered shrine with local people! The legend has it that many times this shrine did protect and help fisherman and locals when in trouble.

• Squid Fishing and deep-sea fishing: – We can hire local fishing boats for you and arrange best leisure or fishing trips for you.

• Golf Driving Range: – There are two golf driving ranges on the island for the golf-oholics among us.

• BB Gun Shooting Range: – Around 2006 or 2007 the shooting range opened and is not a favorite and fun activity at Koh Chang.

• Hiking: – We would say that the best hiking routes are in the south of the island. Koh Chang offers from short hikes to hidden waterfalls to adventitious jungle hikes which should only be done with a knowledgeable guide which we can arrange for you.

Koh Chang is home to about 5,000 permanent residents which means the island is not heavily populated like Phuket which is home to 800,000 permanent residents. However, because of the beauty of the island tourism has increased dramatically over the last few years.

We are proud to say that Koh Chang is one of Thailand’s most beautiful islands with long white sandy beaches, most half deserted.

The island and its vicinity are excellent places for snorkeling, diving and jungle hiking.

Koh Chang did play a role during World War 2  as in 1941, during the Japanese occupation, the Thai Navy fought the French in a battle in the waters to the southeast of Koh Chang.

After that, not much did happened on this island until the first backpacker foreigners started arriving on the back of local fishing boats in the mid-1970s.

In 1982, Koh Chang and its surrounding area became part of the protected Mu Ko Chang National Marine Park, and only very recently, in less than ten years, Koh Chang has turned itself into a major tourist destination, both for foreigners and local Thais.
